Welcome to IN THE SALTBOX — a weekly journal on thoughtful, lived-in design.
It’s where I unpack what makes for a soulful home and share my perspective on all things design. You’ll get styling tips, sourcing ideas, behind-the-scenes peeks into my work, and honest, actionable advice pulled from the real design challenges I see every day.
Hi, I’m Shelby Girard, a Connecticut-based interior designer with a love for old homes and intentional design that feels as good as it looks. I create storied, soulful and lived-in homes that blend historic charm with modern ease… a style I call Heritage Modern.
My work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Domino, Martha Stewart, and more, and my approach is shaped by years of experience both designing for clients and leading creative for some of today’s most beloved home brands. This journal is where I share what I’ve learned along the way including the ideas, sources, and choices that make a home feel personal and complete.
Thanks for following along — I’m glad you’re here.
